It is so important to constantly challenge ourselves physically. We are people wanting to influence each other and others we meet along the way.
This is where we can get workouts for the day, track your times, pr's, ask and reply to questions and comments.

This is also where we will share what events we are participating in and opening them up to the rest of the team to take part in.

Definitions...

Snatch, Clean and Clean & Jerk...
When we talk Oly-lifts...there are many times prefixes will come before the word. What do they mean...this is a common source of discussion/argument...They are:
Power-, Squat-, Hang-

Power- & Squat- : these are how you will "catch" the bar. "Landing Position"!!!  Squat means you must catch the bar in a full squat or if you catch it in a power position, you must perform a squat before standing erect to finish the clean/snatch or moving to jerk  Many times you will not hear these terms...you will just hear Snatch or Clean.  That means you can catch the bar any way you want (either way is fine).

Hang- : This word stands on its own.  It means just want it says...Bar does not touch the ground between reps.  You must "hang" the bar to your knees, just below your knees or just above your knees (usually specified by the trainer). At Farmland Games we had to stand fully erect b/t reps...where you "hanged" the bar to did not matter...so long as you were erect b/t reps (otherwise, NO-REP!)

You can combine the "Hang" with either "Squat" or "Power". HANG SQUAT CLEAN, HANG POWER CLEAN or Just HANG CLEAN...BUT there would never be a SQUAT-POWER CLEAN!

Simple...eh?

OK...On to the WOD...

Shoulder Mobilitations...
Burgener Warm-Up
6 x white bar ... then ... 4 x 45#

SNATCH 2-2-2-2-2-2 (work to heavy set of 2, 2M Rest b/t or so)

GREAT Sunday Post... READ BELOW and reflect!

Sunday, October 14, 2012

It's Sunday..

Be honest,
How are the goals going?
You getting out what you want, putting in what you need?

Our fall seasons are in their final weeks.... it's been enlightening. lots of reflection.

We went back this weekend to spend some time with Coach in Waupun.
We asked some questions last night and here is a lil recap from conditioning to just coaching.. whether or not he realizes it... we need this from him and the other great Coaches we have around us!  For us to be better, we too need some coaching from the greats.
So it went a little like this
(a much more editted version that doesn't include the new vocabulary I was introduced to last night):
What are you doing to make them look like that?  Like Athletes.
They didn't walk in to the season looking like that.  Some, so so, but all, no.
~Everything I am doing with conditioning exists within drills.  Consequences are consistently med ball work and plyo.
Moral of the story: It isn't the motions.  It will never be just going through the motions if you can't align them with the actions they are needed to execute in the game.
Its running, that is consistent with game-like scenarios.
Its lifting in movements that mimic that of short, burts of explosive energy.
*Got it.  We got that one.

Next: So Coach, what's changed?
~In the beginning, it was the constant push to out-coach those in competition.  What can I do to assist my team?  I can out-coach the others in my sport.  That was my push.
Now, we see more of a single-sport player and lose the 'Athlete' perspective.  Growth in the game becomes so much more apparent with multi-sport athletes... they can just out play the single-sport player, because they've worked with enough variety to give them that edge.
We need athletes
(I hear this everyday from another that inspires me.. great minds think alike!)
Do what you need to do to out-coach your competition.
And push your players to be multi-sport athletes.
Bring them with you... the more involved you are the more they see the opportunity you provide for them.

**By the end of the night... which was early.  And which may have led to the 'Are you Serious!!' comment and a shift down on the 'these people are awesome' list.
It was pretty great to think that a Coach that was possibly ready to step out a few years back, thinking it was time, has brought himself up to, yet again, another level with a team.  No doubt, finding success with the individuals he has surrounding him in his coaching staff, that assists in that enjoyment.

Pretty awesome to have these kinds of Inspirational People in life...
and I know there isn't a place I go that I don't find this kind of greatness!

Happy Sunday everyone.

Losing...

Winning teaches you so many things:
confidence. trust. unity. camaraderie. desire.
It brings the moral to a high point that can never be achieved until you get that win under your belt.
It tells you exactly what you are capable of doing.. or have been capable of doing all along.

Losing before winning is hard.. losing when you have known little but losing is even harder.
Losing after winning is sent as a reminder:
the mental toughness needed. why we go the extra mile. give the extra 10%. make the effort count. make your teammates know you want them to be better.
show your coaches you have what it takes to make it work.
It adds kindling to the fire.. and sometimes it is what needs to happen to catapult a team to the next level.

Losing when winning hasn't been the 'norm' is a whole different set of drills...
Is it that you are no longer coaching them on just how to play the game...
But coaching them on how to find what they need to win.
To find their inner competitor and the confidence to build their competitive ego.
Finding the will to win.... The desire.
Stepping away from the basic skill sets and seeing the bigger picture: Team. Companionship. Trust.
Making them find that security on the court.
Having them work for the continuity of plays vs themselves.

I can't handle losing, but not like this.
I can't take showing up to 'not' show up when it's our turn to compete.
Thinking that we put in the hours of work, preparation and then when it comes the time, we fail.
I fail.
That's what that tells me.
I am failing at some thing we are doing....
What do I have to improve, what do I need to make better?
Where do I step back to?  Why can't I see it?
WHY do I keep wanting to jack myself in the face with my already broken clipboard?!
How do you coach them on what they need to win....
I can coach them on every skill.....
but how do I coach them on winning.
What is winning:
more than just a feeling...
A belief?
When you believe in something: you don't just know it to be true?  you accept it as truth.
Losing is not acceptable.

THINK about this.
I am the kind of person who... name it.
This is a statement you are making.
This statement is keeping you from being the kind of person you could be.
Having the ability to demonstrate the kind of person we are is an action, it isn't a sentence we tell others of what we are unwilling to give up in order to be great. PCF

Sometimes it takes losing yourself to find the person you were destined to be.
I want to push them to what they are capable of doing.

*one last match.

Addiction is life...
Simply put, we cannot fight who we are, and we are all addicted...
To eliminate addiction is impossible, to exchange vice for virtue is human.

20 seconds

Thought:
Time.  Effort.  Ability.  Fear.  Discomfort.  Opportunity.  Amazement.

20 seconds.
Sometimes all you need is 20 seconds of insane courage.
20 seconds of embarrassing bravery and something great will happen.

*heard this today. thought there was nothing more appropriate for some of the situations life throws our way.

Oct. Work!

This is the ATTITUDE you need to have to ATTACK life!
That is right...ATTACK life!  GET AFTER IT!

Don't let life hit you between the eyes! Be ready for ANYthing!
How you respond to things is more important that anything else.  Do you respond with a "poor me" attitude, or do you say "this sucks...why can't I make it better", or even better, "this sucks...what good can I take from this to improve?"

Live your life the way it is meant to be lived...
Lived with a purpose...

To many people go thru life surviving...not living.
I am not saying to be selfish, concieted, or be a "me" person...But live they way YOU feel you should.
GIVE BACK, LIVE FOR OTHERS, DON'T BE AFRAID TO TRY NEW THINGS.

Time to challenge ourselves by taking the extra time before to work on our weaknesses:
Starting the 8th... get in 10-15min earlier (5:45-50) and focus on what you want to change...
Hold yourself accountable...
Hold each other accountable....

Assess your weaknessses: What Are They?
This month is your month to work on that weakness... Give it the extra time and effort.
If you aren't at WR and in each morning then tell someone what you are working on... discuss, talk about it, the more people that know what you are working on improving the better the outcome.
WHY? Because the people you tell will ask you about it...THEN you must face-it...Have you been working or will you find an excuse?

We WILL Work to Help You.
Val ~ Strict Pull Up

First WOD was very interesting...unreal combo of strength and cardio... My lungs were about to burst by the time I hit the 100m mark for the 200m Run.  When we have lower reps but higher weight in these types of WOD's it makes for an interesting dynamic.  You must FOCUS on technique and EXPLODE on movement...Remember SMOOTH is FAST...
Watching Britt (who is very smooth & technically good at snatch) was just missing the top of the snatch...He really had to take some time to get focused... I know he was frustrated, but watching him work thru it and NOT give up or get discouraged was awesome!  This is what life is about...working thru tough things.  NOT avoiding them! Taking on challenges that may seem easy, but you find out are difficult...& persevering anyway!

Second WOD was just plain grinding...something new and different (sled pull b/t legs) and the grind of HEAVY farmers carry for 200m...WOW!

Suggestions for the month:
MF ~ Breathing Burpees: 10 consecutive burpees, then take 10 slow deep breaths, repeat 2 more times for a total of 30 burpees the first week, add a set the next week for a total of 40, add a set the 3rd week for a total of 50...Do this 3 times a week for your warm-up or at home with the Family (this is a great activity to wake up with!)
With breathing burpees you can breath as much as you want DURING the exercise, just work and controlling the breathing while resting.

Val ~ Eccentric Pull Ups: Get yourself up (chin above bar) then lower for a 6 count...if you can make it an 8 count...even better!  Repeat for 2-3 sets of 3-6 reps during warm-ups!
